Family Friday: Five Things I’ll Never Blog About

Growing up my teachers used to say, “Good writers write about what they know.” For instance, John Grisham writes legal novels because he was once a lawyer. Since starting this blog a little over a year ago, I have tried to remember that saying with each post.

But let’s be honest… there are just some things I don’t know. Which means there are some things I’ll never write about around here. So as part of the whole Family Friday series, I thought I would give you some insight into my weaknesses.

Five Thing’s I’ll Never Blog About

1. How to Organize Your Closet

Here’s a secret… I am not organized. Not in the least. Not in my closet, the pantry, or anywhere else. Deep down inside I want to be organized and a neat freak. I get all happy and giddy like the rest of you when my closet is all neat and pretty. Then reality sets in… I shove clothes on the shelves to get them off the bed, shoes are kicked onto the floor instead of placed on the shoe racks, coats aren’t hung back up because I have trouble reaching the top rod (I’m only 4’11”). I have a bad habit of not wanting to take the time to do things right the first time. I lack perfectionism. There I said it! Honestly, sometimes I surprise myself when I discover the places I unknowingly hide stuff. Is anybody else like that?

2. What to Wear

I’ve never really kept up with what is on the cutting edge of fashion design. My philosophy is more- if I (or ML) like(s) it, then wear it. Especially if it makes me feel good. I like to pick up a few stylish pieces every season, but normally I end up putting my own twist on everything.

Don’t be looking for a memo from me when skinny jeans officially go “out of style.” I’ll be wearing them until I find something else I like. If fashion were up to me, I would declare t-shirts and jeans the most stylish outfit to wear. Is anybody else with me on that one?

3. How to Style Your Hair

No clue on this one. I have struggled with it my whole life. The best thing I have learned is to accept what God has given me. Ever since I embraced my straight hair, hair styles have looked much better on me. That doesn’t mean I know what I am doing though. I can hardly fix my hair the same from day to day. My instructions to my hair stylist always sound something like, “Whatever you think will look the best and I’ll be able to fix in five minutes.” Seriously, I get frustrated if it takes longer than that. Plus with Noah crawling around all over the place now, I don’t have more time than that to devote to my hair.

4. Tips on Punctuality

;

Before I was married, I might could have helped you on this one but not anymore. ML has rubbed off on me. We don’t always run behind, but arriving on time is arriving early to us. I don’t mind though. It’s so much easier if you don’t stress about sticking to a strict schedule. Occasionally, a little bit of my former self creeps in though. For instance, when we leave on road trips. Normally, I have a time in my head I would like to leave by, but I have to remind myself to be realistic and anticipate everything that may possibly set us back and just go with the flow. Throw a baby (not literally) in the mix, and it really does take all our effort to get to places on time now. Which are you… Mrs. (or Mr.) Punctuality or Mrs. (or Mr.) BetterLateThanNever?

5. Avoiding Procrastination

There’s no lying about this one… I am a procrastinator. A huge one. Always have been and always will be. In school I always waited until the last minute to start my projects or study for a test. Nowadays, I am bad about not cleaning until I notice the house actually needs it. Or with blogging for instance, I rarely ever have more than one post written at a time. Sometimes, I am still tweaking the post the morning it goes live. In my head it’s not officially late until the next calendar day. It doesn’t help either that ML is a procrastinator too. What a great pair! Do you struggle with this one too?

So there you have it. Five things I’ll never blog about. I could keep going though. There is a lot that I don’t know, but this gives you a little insight into what kind of person I actually am. A t-shirt clad, straight haired girl with a crazy closet, running behind because she was too busy procrastinating!

What are some of your weaknesses? Things you don’t know enough about to write about.

It’s so awesome that you embrace these things about yourself! It makes for much less stress! I am kind of an organization freak! But that doesn’t mean my house is always clean, just organized. 🙂 I think we all struggle with hair issues. Sometimes I just think men have it so easy…get up, take a shower, eat, get dressed, leave. Wouldn’t that be nice?!

Men do have it so much easier! Thankfully ML has a few OCD tendencies so I let him do all the organizing in our house.

I can relate to you on so many of these! I used to be a neat freak but Andrew and a baby quickly broke me of that! I used to be early for everything but Andrew and a baby quickly broke me of that. I used to get everything done far in advance but Andrew and a baby quickly broke me of that. I sense a pattern….:) However, I never have been a hair or clothes person even before Andrew and a baby!

You definitely have a pattern going on! At least we have learned to accept our husband’s predictability of being late.

Krystle…I’m right there with you! My other weakness…chocolate bread as in brownies, cake, whatever. So, maybe mine would be more like this: A t-shirt clad, curly haired girl with a crazy closet, running behind because she was too busy procrastinating while eating a brownie!

    Cute post! 😉

I think I need to make a list of my weaknesses too! I need to be able to “embrace” them as you have here! Thanks for sharing that it’s *ok* not to have it all down! Also for linking up at Simply Helping Him! 🙂
