Family Friday: Iron Clad

Warning! Family Picture Overload

Michael Luke and I celebrated our six year wedding anniversary last Sunday! It’s hard to believe it’s been six years since we both said “I do” but at the same time it also feels like forever ago.  One things for sure though it has been a blessing from God.

To add a little challenge to the gift giving each year we like to find something that coordinates with the traditional anniversary list.  Year six is iron.

And when you live in Birmingham, once a major iron mining city, what better place to visit than Vulcan Park, home of Vulcan, the world’s largest cast iron statue.  So we pretended to be tourists in our own town for the day!

It was so much fun and we couldn’t have asked for better weather… much like on our wedding day six years ago.

Besides the beautiful view of Birmingham from the base of Vulcan’s feet there is also a wonderful museum exhibit, and the opportunity to come again once it’s dark for night views of the city.

If you ever find yourself in the “Magic City” don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit Vulcan

… and his butt.

Have you ever pretended to be tourists in your own town?  Is your town big enough to have anything to tour? Or maybe you have spent some time here in B’ham and paid a visit to Vulcan?  What are some ways you and your significant other have celebrated anniversaries?  Are you a traditional gift giving couple?

P.S:  One thing that’s not quite clear from all the pictures above is that it was massively windy the whole time we were there.  We are talking wind gusts of 20-30 MPH.  Here’s a good shot depicting that.

Nice hair!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! Looks like a really fun day. We’ve done staycations before – so similar to being a tourist in your own town – and loved it.

Thanks! We had fun. It was almost better than a vacation because we didn’t have to drive a million hours to get there.

Thank you! I had to splurge on those glasses for her. It’s not too often in life when you can pull off huge purple sunglasses. Might as well take advantage of it!

Exploring Birmingham was a very creative idea! Being the Iron Town fit the 6 th anniversary to a T. Noah looked like she enjoyed it sooo much!

Looks like you all had a wonderful time! We’ve always been the type of family to just get in the car and drive somewhere to find out what’s at the end of the road. Living in Austin for the past 20 yrs, the capitol of TX, we’ve explored this city from one end to the other – especially when our kids were young. This May will be our 35th anniversary. I’m not sure what we’ll do this year, but I know we’ll have fun because this is a fun city.

Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary! Living in a city that offers so much to do definitely has its perks. There is still so much left of Birmingham left for us to explore… we better get busy.
