Survey Says

The results are in!  Thanks so much for participating in our two year blogiversary survey.  It really is fun getting to know more about each of you and getting your feedback.  What’s the point of writing if I’m not writing what you guys want to hear more of.

favorite subject I write aboutAnd from the looks of it you guys like both the design and the family side of the blog but just want more of it.  With a heart and passion for design I love sharing our DIY projects around the house, sometimes I forget though that y’all want to get to know me and my family as well as our home.  You requested it to hear more about Noah and Esther.  Esther information for the most part will be fairly limited until the adoption is final but I would love to share more adventures and experiences with Noah and more of our adoption journey.   So we will keep those posts coming and hopefully with a little more frequency.

Where on Earth are you?

Ok, this was one was interesting and probably one of my favorite questions.
where on earth are you
Most of the readers who filled out the survey are from the south but there are a few others of you that do a pretty good job of representing the rest of the U.S.  except for the west coast.  Ok, west coast people, it’s time to check us out and follow along.  Find out where our sunshine is, how we eat our veggies, and what our summers are like.

What’s your generation?

Like me most of y’all are Gen Y peeps.  We are the first social media generation (shout out to all you former Yahoo! messenger buddies) and still like our technology.  Maybe that’s why you can find so many of us blogging or sharing our lives on Instagram… it’s how we grew up.

which generation are you

How you find us and hear about new posts is up for grabs really.  Facebook is the most popular way but discovering new posts through your blog feeder also works for many of you. However you find out about our latest and greatest post works for me.  I’m just tickled pink that you keep coming back.  🙂how do you find out about new postsSo there you have it… the results of our “2 Year Blogiversary Survey“.  Like all the new college students we are now full force into the new year… except for there are now exams here.  That is unless you count all our DIY projects as “pass” or “fail”.  If you missed the survey the other week it’s not too late to tell us a little about you.  Just leave your response to the questions below in the comments.   Where are you from?  What generation are you?  What’s your favorite subject here on the blog? And what would you like to read more of?

Motivated

This past weekend was “tax free” shopping on clothes and school supplies here in Alabama.  Thankfully, ML and I are both out of school and Noah hasn’t quite started any form of structured learning.  The thought of a new school year starting, of the chance to begin something new has really gotten me motivated though.

Motivated to clean and prep the house for fall… even if we are in the middle of Summer.  Motivated to explore some design topics here on the blog.   Motivated to get some DIY projects done… which means I actually need to start some of them.  Motivated to finally get organized… I broke down and bought a planner (tax free)!

20130805-212744.jpgI’m really excited about my planner.  Way more than I should be.  I have different color pens for keeping activities organized… blue for the blog, red for family, black for all other.  I’m a procrastinator but do well working with deadlines  So, I figured maybe if I have a calendar to give myself actual deadlines it will help me prioritize everything and manage to give my mind a little sanity.

With all this planning I hope to actually free up a little time.  And by “free up” I really mean find enough time to get everything done.  Does this every actually happen?  I think not.

Besides my super cool pink flowery planner I mentioned that I was also motivated to finally dive into some design topics here on the blog.  I love chronicling our DIY journey with you but I think it will also be fun to explore some design topics.  I don’t claim to be a design expert by any means and still have a lot to learn about residential design but after working as an interior designer for five years and becoming licensed and NCIDQ certified I hope to have a little knowledge to share with you.

One of the first topics I plan to cover will be a series about tile.  Ceramic tile.  Porcelain tile.  What’s the difference?  Tile shapes, sizes, thickness, and installation patterns.  Selecting the tile that is right for you.  After installing the tile in our kitchen I realized that there were several people who didn’t know what i meant by “subway tile”.  What is it they asked?  After hearing this a few times I thought maybe people would like to know more about tile.  Especially since it is a popular element to use in design.  I have a few more topics rumbling around in my head but I don’t want to give them all away right now.  I think this will be a fun new addition to the blog though and I am definitely open to any more topics you would love to know more about.

Has all the talk of “back to school” got you ready for fall?  Are there any new things you plan to start?  Any new goals?  What other topics would you be interested in learning about?
