Kickoff and Ice Breakers

Today marks the kickoff of Kelly Minter’s Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break study.

Kelly Minter, Transformed Deeper

Don’t click away if you aren’t planning on doing the study with us. I’ll try to bring you up to speed every week so you can join in the conversation too. Or if you want to join us (it’s open to anyone) there’s still time to get your book from LifeWay online or at one of the their stores. We will meet back here next week to discuss the first week’s study. Originally, I was thinking we would meet on Tuesdays but I think the posts will go up every Wednesday morning. I encourage you to comment every week and then come back and read the other reader’s comments as well so that we can all learn from each other.

I wanted to share part of what Kelly wrote in the introduction of Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break.

As God is forming me into a more whole and free woman, Ive begun to realize that freedom and healing aren’t just so I can have exquisite friends, dwell in a peaceful home, attend an amazing church, make a comfortable salary, and eat tick-fed chiken. These are sublime blessings, but christ has made us whole for far more than our own earthly comforts and pleasures. Essentially, wholeness is not the end but the very beginning, because wholeness allows us to give much more of our hears, possessions, time, wisdom, money, friendship and love away- a part of my Christianity that has been lacking.

Wow! Who doesn’t struggle with all of this and like her I believe this has been missing from my Christianity too. But I want more… I want a heart that can break… that breaks for others. This my friend is what this study is about. Oh, and if you didn’t understand the “tick-fed chicken” comment you’ll have to get the book to find out the rest of the story.

For my own benefit I have selected a memory verse for each week. I don’t know about you but memorizing scripture is one area I need lots of improvement in. This weeks verse is Nehemiah 1:11a.

I have really been looking forward to this study and in preparation have already started on it. So far I have been completely blessed by it and know you will too. Since, this is our first time all together so to speak let’s take time to get to know each other a little better. Imagine we are all in my living room…

drinking coffee and eating chocolate cake or brownies (or both). Maybe we should all make an agreement to eat some chocolate when we read these posts every week.! Just so we can pretend we are together. Anyway, imagine we are all in my living room chatting away. Getting to know each other before we start digging in together. Let’s all share our names, where we are from (you can just say what state if you want) and something interesting about yourself.

For instance…

My name is Krystle. I live in Birmingham, Alabama. Thankfully, height doesn’t matter in the blog world because I am only 4′ 11″ tall. Which means still at 28 I am frequently mistaken for a teenager (it’s happening less and less though) and I am forced to wear children’ s shoes for the most part. Let’s just say excessive shoe shopping is not something I struggle with.

Ok, now your turn…

Kelly Minter, Transformed Deeper

Do you want a heart that can break?

There is a little less than two weeks before we begin Kelly Minter’s study of Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break on June 26.

Kelly Minter, Transformed Deeper

I am super excited but a little bit nervous too. This will be my first Bible study to lead, but regardless of my ability/inability to lead, Kelly does an amazing job of walking you through the scripture and challenging your heart. So I guess what I am trying to say is, “It’s going to be amazing Y’all!”

Here’s a little snippet of what the study is about:

Nehemiah’s heart broke so deeply for the suffering Jews that he left the comfort of his Persian palace to restore their desolate community.
. . . Nehemiah will inspire you to listen to what God has put in your heart to do. Let God break your heart for the hurting because he often uses a breaking heart to restore the broken.” (back cover) Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break

And for an even deeper look at what the study is about check out this video:

Oh and don’t worry if your not sure where Nehemiah is in the Bible. I didn’t really know either until I started this study. A lot of the Old Testament books just run together in my head sometimes. Nehemiah can be found nestled in between Ezra and Esther… just remember, it’s between the E’s.

Previously, I had mentioned that I would be leading discussion through Twitter using the hashtag #TransformedDeeper. Don’t let that stop you if you’re not on Twitter. It is looking like most people will just be responding through the blog post I will do once a week, and that will be fine. Even if you don’t feel like posting your responses as a comment, don’t let that stop you from doing the study. Just read and be encouraged by what others have to say.

If you don’t already have a Bible study this Summer and are looking to be Transformed Deeper, join us as we begin this study. Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break is available at Lifeway online and in stores. We will start June 26. You don’t need to have the first week’s reading done by then; just come ready to begin our study. I hope you will join me and want you to know I have been praying for you and praying that God would give us all “a heart that can break.”

Transformed Deeper

It always amazes me how God works. The other morning while I was folding clothes (one of my glorious duties) I started thinking back to when I used to be involved with a women’s Bible study group. We met once a week to watch a DVD (usually a Beth Moore study) that normally followed along with our workbook we used throughout the week. I loved these studies and felt like it was really beneficial for my quiet time. Unfortunately, I stopped going about a year ago because our schedule was getting hectic plus we had a baby on the way. And even though our small group follows along with the outlined church readings to prepare us for the upcoming week’s sermons I have really been desiring something more. Something deeper.

Well you know how God is. He heard my desires and then provided an opportunity. I didn’t even remember following Beth Moore on Twitter but apparently I do. And within an hour of wanting to start on a deeper Bible study she tweeted out a link to her blog where she was inviting readers to participate in a Summer Bible Study! That is just God orchestrated right there!

So there wasn’t any doubt in my mind that I shouldn’t pass up this opportunity. Beth has chosen Kelly Minter’s Nehemiah: A Heart that Can Break book to work through this Summer. It is a six week Bible Study and I am looking forward to it!

I am so excited about it and I want to invite you to go through it with me. We will begin June 26th, which should give us all plenty of time to all get the book. It is available through LifeWay online and in their stores. I will only be using the workbook for this Bible study. There are videos that accompany each week’s lessons for individual purchase on LifeWay’s website though.

This will be an excellent opportunity to get to know each other more and dig deeper into the word of God. Starting June 26, I am planning on hosting a Twitter Chat Party Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. EST using #TransformedDeeper where we can go over some questions outlined by Beth and Kelly. And like any good women’s Bible study pajamas and sweat pants are acceptable attire! If Twitter is not your thing I will also do a weekly post update with the questions listed there as well as opportunities for further discussion. These posts will be in addition to my two usual post every week.

I’ve even created a new tab below the header “Transformed Deeper”. There you will be able to find the questions for the upcoming week’s discussion and other information. Let me know if you plan to join me on this study. I have been praying that God would speak to all of us through this time together. I truly look forward to this and hope you will join me this Summer on my journey of being Transformed Deeper.

I am not receiving any compensation for promoting this or kick backs from book sales. I just think this will be a wonderful opportunity to grow deeper together.
