Looking back, last week seems like a blur. A mad dash to the finish line. Finals week. It was crazy, I was crazy, but it all culminated with a wonderful birthday party for Noah on Saturday.
Ahhh! She’s one!
I know I owe you lots of details. What was the theme? How was the food? To smash or not to smash a cake? Everything. And I promise I will give them to you… but not today. I was so busy being hostess and mommy that I barely snapped any pictures! Blogger’s nightmare I know!
Thankfully, friends and family managed to get lost of great pics so hopefully I can share all the details with you soon.
In the meantime, I thought I would fill you in on how we spent Friday night, the night before the big day.
Friday night was a family night for us. I night for Michael Luke, Noah, and me to spend together before ALL the family arrived in town. Since I had been so busy preparing for the party I wasn’t about to cook dinner for us too. This little Momma needed a night off.
I thought it would be fun to celebrate and remember the night before we had Noah… the night we went to the hospital. One might ask, “How do you do that?” Well, for us it meant going out for Chinese food. Specifically egg drop soup!
Egg drop soup was my final meal request before heading to the hospital. A little strange I know and practically the only craving I had the entire pregnancy besides water. I think it was just that I didn’t think I could stomach a meal but soup sounded really good. And the local Chinese restaurant was the closest place to our house that served soup.
About five or six hours into labor (around 8:00 at night) I decided I should probably eat before being admitted to the hospital where I knew they wouldn’t be offering me anything. ML called the local Chinese place hoping they would deliver. All we wanted was an order of egg drop soup though and since it didn’t total over ten bucks they wouldn’t deliver! Not even when we told them I was in labor. So being the frugal couple that we are I told ML just to drive over a pick up the soup.
He left and so did my sanity. I kind of panicked with each contraction, completely forgot all the relaxation methods we had been practicing, and prayed for him to return quickly. Thankfully, he did!
He brought the soup upstairs to our bedroom, where I was. I was so excited to finally get a little something to eat. Until we uncovered it and saw that they had given us Hot and Sour Soup. Ok… Hot and Sour are two things you really don’t want to eat while in labor. I managed to stomach a few bites but that was it. So much for my last meal.
Next, we unwrapped our Fortune Cookies. MIne read:
You will soon receive pleasant news of a personal nature.
Then we called our parents and headed to the hospital. And well you know what happened next.
So after such a memorable “last meal” experience you can see why it would be the perfect place to celebrate the night before Noah arrived. Just not at the same restaurant.
Friday night Noah got to experience Chinese food for the first time. A special little night out with her parents.
I finally got my egg drop soup and got to share it with Noah. She loved it and all the other food… even her fortune cookie. We haven’t found much she doesn’t like.
I think this might have to become a little family tradition for us.
What about you? Do you have any quirky family traditions in your family? Any funny memories of the night before your little one? I would love to hear them!
