Kickoff and Ice Breakers

Today marks the kickoff of Kelly Minter’s Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break study.

Kelly Minter, Transformed Deeper

Don’t click away if you aren’t planning on doing the study with us. I’ll try to bring you up to speed every week so you can join in the conversation too. Or if you want to join us (it’s open to anyone) there’s still time to get your book from LifeWay online or at one of the their stores. We will meet back here next week to discuss the first week’s study. Originally, I was thinking we would meet on Tuesdays but I think the posts will go up every Wednesday morning. I encourage you to comment every week and then come back and read the other reader’s comments as well so that we can all learn from each other.

I wanted to share part of what Kelly wrote in the introduction of Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break.

As God is forming me into a more whole and free woman, Ive begun to realize that freedom and healing aren’t just so I can have exquisite friends, dwell in a peaceful home, attend an amazing church, make a comfortable salary, and eat tick-fed chiken. These are sublime blessings, but christ has made us whole for far more than our own earthly comforts and pleasures. Essentially, wholeness is not the end but the very beginning, because wholeness allows us to give much more of our hears, possessions, time, wisdom, money, friendship and love away- a part of my Christianity that has been lacking.

Wow! Who doesn’t struggle with all of this and like her I believe this has been missing from my Christianity too. But I want more… I want a heart that can break… that breaks for others. This my friend is what this study is about. Oh, and if you didn’t understand the “tick-fed chicken” comment you’ll have to get the book to find out the rest of the story.

For my own benefit I have selected a memory verse for each week. I don’t know about you but memorizing scripture is one area I need lots of improvement in. This weeks verse is Nehemiah 1:11a.

I have really been looking forward to this study and in preparation have already started on it. So far I have been completely blessed by it and know you will too. Since, this is our first time all together so to speak let’s take time to get to know each other a little better. Imagine we are all in my living room…

drinking coffee and eating chocolate cake or brownies (or both). Maybe we should all make an agreement to eat some chocolate when we read these posts every week.! Just so we can pretend we are together. Anyway, imagine we are all in my living room chatting away. Getting to know each other before we start digging in together. Let’s all share our names, where we are from (you can just say what state if you want) and something interesting about yourself.

For instance…

My name is Krystle. I live in Birmingham, Alabama. Thankfully, height doesn’t matter in the blog world because I am only 4′ 11″ tall. Which means still at 28 I am frequently mistaken for a teenager (it’s happening less and less though) and I am forced to wear children’ s shoes for the most part. Let’s just say excessive shoe shopping is not something I struggle with.

Ok, now your turn…
